Boot Buying Tips

I have had the privilage of spending 10 days in Park City, Utah at our Cowboy Shop. I have learned so much about our Lucchese Classics and I am excited to share what I have learned.

I found it very interesting that several people commented on the fact that they have cowboy boots, and they love them, but they never just wear them. I began to wonder why that is, I mentioned it to Jeena and she said that it is because most people have been sized too small.

Most people aren't educated or aware of how a cowboy boot should properly fit. When putting your foot in the throat of the boot, your foot should comfortably "pop" into the boot. The boot should fit comfortably snug through the instep with no pinching or pulling. There should be up to 1 1/2" of heel slippage. The heel needs to be able to slip so that you can get your foot into and out of the boot. The slippage will subside some once you have worn the boot a couple of times.

Fit is the most important aspect of enjoying and wearing your boots. Second comes style. When choosing a pair of boots, I think they need to "speak" to you. They need to fit your personality and style. A good choice for a first time boot is definately a brown or black. They are both versatile colors and can be worn with many clothing choices. Goat,Buffalo Calf, Bison or Hippo are all great choices of leather for a first time pair, they are durable as well as comfortable.

I often say that I won't buy a boot I am not in love with. I have to first like it on the shelf, but once it is on my foot, I have to be in love. I have to know just what I am going to wear this pair of boots with and see the possibilities. A pair of boots is not just another purchase, it is an investment as well as a wearable work of art.

Buying your first pair of boots can be such a rewarding and fulfilling process. With the right components, it can be something that you look forward for years to come.

Tasty Appetizer

If you are looking for a super easy, really tasty, hit of the party appetizer, look no further than Cowboy Candy and its brother and sister Cowtown Candy and Cowgirl Candy by WHH Ranch. Just add tortilla chips and cream cheese and everyone will be raving.

So what is Cowboy Candy? It is the original sweet jalepeno. I will be honest, I was a little nervous about trying this, I don't do jalepeno's, but WOW, it was so good. Just take a tortilla chip, preferably the "scoop" kind, put in a dab of cream cheese, put a piece of Cowboy Candy on top and you are in for a taste explosion. You cannot have just one, I guarantee it.

The Cowtown Candy has garlic for a whole different taste sensation. The Cowgirl Candy has pineapple and marischino cherries. I'm told it is spicer than the Cowboy Candy, which at first surprised me a little. But if you think about it girls can be a little spicer than their male counterparts.

So where do these amazing creations come from? WHH Ranch Company is the oldest family owned and operated cannery in Texas. They opened their doors in 1939 and still make every item one at a time. They hand pick, hand process and hand can every item and it is worth it. They produce for hundreds of stores, craft shows, trade shows and horse shows.

We are pleased to carry Cowboy, Cowgirl and Cowtown Candy at Burns Saddlery.

The Jean Report

One thing every girl needs regardless of whether she is a cowgirl or not, is a great pair of jeans. We are so lucky at Burns Saddlery and the Burns Cowboy Shops' that we get to wear jeans every day so having great jeans is a must. So what makes a pair of jeans go from just a pair of jeans to a great pair of jeans? I conducted a little survey of the ladies that work at Burns Saddlery and Burns Cowboy Shop in Park City to find out what they thought.

I first asked in their opinion, what the deciding factors they use when shopping for jeans. The factors that we all agree are the most important in jeans are fit, comfort and cut. The price, color and embellishments aren’t quite as crucial in our decision to buy a pair of jeans.

What makes us want to try on a pair of jeans? First they have to look good just sitting there, unique and stylish, then we have to be able to find our size. But the biggest reason for trying on a pair of jeans is to see how they fit and see how they look, especially if they are flattering to our assets.

So what takes a pair of jeans from just jeans to your favorite jeans? Hands down, comfort and fit are the most important factors in making a pair of jeans your favorite. I asked the girls what their favorite brands of jeans were (even ones that we don’t sell). Silver, Adiktd, Taverniti So., Miss Me and Q-Baby were some of the answers.

Of course I asked what line of jeans that we carry were their favorites and here are our winners:

Adiktid Jeans for fit

Rock & Roll Cowgirl for the bling factor

Cowgirl Tuff for the fit and look

Wrangler Q Baby for the stretch and comfort We would love to hear about your favorite jeans. Leave us a comment and we'll let everyone know what our readers favorites are.

We Are Thankful

"Gratitude helps you grow and expand; gratitude brings joy and laughter into your life and into the lives of all those around you" Eileen Caddy

Our back room here at Burns Saddlery is so incredibly full, we are tripping over each other and everything. For this we are grateful. We are grateful that we have the opportunity to go on the road and take the things that make our stores so amazing and share with others. We are full of gratitude to those that stop by to see us on the road, in one of the stores or on the web. We are appreciative to those that tell others about us. If it weren’t for the amazing people that we meet every day, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience the success that we have been blessed with. So with thankful hearts we wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.
